This personal project was my entry to the People's Flag of Milwaukee contest. Having been born in Milwaukee, and being interested in vexillology, I took to my usual iterative design process of ideation and feedback. Below are some of the iterations I went though before settling on the two entries above.
Ideation: Taking inspiration from the history of Milwaukee, I included 3 stars for the 3 towns it started off as, the amber for its historic breweries, the white for its sandy beaches and beautiful art museum, and the blue for Lake Michigan.
Feedback: After asking for feedback on online vexillology forums, and family friends who were from or living in Milwaukee, I adapted the submissions to those found above.
Result: Even though I was not a finalist, I am glad with the contest winner's design as it comprised of very similar elements to mine. While the current flag is considered one of the worst city flags in the United States, the new flag has not yet been officially adopted by the city.
